bio

Karin Averkin is a Geneva-based visual artist working across painting, collage, mixed media and ink. Her practice explores the tension between organic forces and constructed structures, moving between gesture, materiality and abstraction.

Her recent work has developed through artist residencies in Mexico City at Casa Lü and Lagos Estudios y Residencias, where she presented her work through a solo exhibition and an open studio.

artist statement

My work explores the shifting relationship between organic forces and constructed structures — between what is built, what grows, and what resists containment.

In collage and mixed media, I work with recovered fragments of posters and advertisements gathered from public space. Carrying traces of previous contexts and cultural memory, these materials are dismantled and reassembled into new compositions where past and present, order and disruption coexist.

In ink and acrylic, the process becomes more immediate. Gesture, intuition and accident shape the work, allowing emotion and movement to remain visible on the surface.

Nature is both presence and metaphor in my practice — a reflection of resilience, vulnerability and transformation. Rather than depicting it, I explore its rhythms and tensions through colour, gesture, material and form.

Across mediums, my work negotiates construction and collapse, order and growth, structure and freedom.
